Appearance: The Puggat has a very compact and muscular body with a barrel chest like the Rat Terrier, long legs, short hair and a curled tail. They have dark markings like Pug on tips of tail, ears and muzzle.

Life Expectancy: The averate life expectancy of the Puggat is 15 to 18 years.

Size: The Puggat is a small to medium sized dog typically weighing under 17 pounds when fully grown.

Temperament: The Puggat is a very easy-going, loving dog that can have a lot of energy if not exercised properly.

Family Dog: They are loving dogs who usually do great with children and would make a great family dog. They are highly recommended for family or active single person as they like to be involved and need human interaction.

Companionship: The Puggat needs to be with people. They like to travel with family and be involved at all times.

Head: The Puggat has a small and compact head.

Eyes: The Puggat has big, brown eyes.

Muzzle: The snout of the Puggat is not as compact as the Pug's.

 

Teeth/Bite: The Puggat has an underbite that give them the appearance of smiling all the time.

Color: The coat of the Puggat can be Brown, Tan and Black.

Coat: The Puggat has a short coat.

Shedding: The Puggat shed in the spring or when they are stressed. Bathing helps cut down on the shedding.

Grooming: The Puggat should be bathed occasionally. They need to have monthly anal gland expression and nail trimming.

 

Training: The Puggat is typically easy to train if you are the pack leader. They respond to positive training with a firm and consistant attitude and may react to your tone of voice.

Behavior: The Puggat is a kind dog who usually likes all new people and animals. They love to play with toys.

Barking: The Puggat doesn't bark excessively. They typically only bark to alert you that someone or something is outside.

Feeding: The Puggat does good being fed at regular intervals such as 6:00am and 6:00pm.

Weather: The Puggat likes controlled climates. They can't stay outside more than a few minutes in winter, but enjoys the sunshine in summer time.

Allergies: The Puggat has no known allergies at this time.

Exercise: The Puggat should be taken on daily walks or jogs. They shouldn't have as many of the nasal issues as purebred Pugs.

Physical Ability: The Puggat is able to run very quickly and jump very high. They are great candidates for agility training.

Living Arrangements: The Puggat loves to be outside in a yard. They would do okay in an apartment provided they are walked daily for at least 30 minutes.

Health: The Puggat is typically a very healthy dog.

Eye Health: The Puggat may be prone to weepy eyes like the Pug, but this is relatively easy to keep clean.
