Recognition: Yes, as Cock-A-Poo.

Appearance: Cockapoos have a sturdy, squarely built appearance. They have large, round, dark brown eyes and dark colored noses. Their tails can be docked.

Life Expectancy: Cockapoos usually live to be between 13 and 14 years of age.

Size: Cockapoos can range in weight from 2lbs to 65lbs depending on the size of poodle parent. Cockapoos with a Teacup Poodle parent are around 2-5 lbs, Toy Poodle parent around 5-12 lbs, Miniature Poodle parent 13-20lbs and Standard Poodle about 21-65 lbs.

Temperament: Cockapoos are people oriented and outgoing dogs. They are very gentle, affectionate, friendly, happy dogs. They are well-suited for children and adults. Cockapoos should not be left alone for long periods of time during the day.

Family Dog: The Cockapoo is an ideal family dog, child's playmate or companion for the elderly. They make perfect dogs for anyone willing to take care of the coat.

Color: Cockapoos can be any solid color, or multi-colored consisting of two or more solid colors one of which should be white. Some common color combinations are solid black and black with tan points.

Coat: Cockapoos can have any of three coat types: tight curly coat, the medium curl, and flat coat. The coats usually consist of very long, dense, silky fur.

Grooming: Cockapooos are high maintenence and require constant brushing.

 

Training: Cockapoos are very intelligent and easy to train.

Weather: Cockapoos can adapt to any climate, city, or rural living. They are extremely adaptable dogs.

Exercise: Cockapoos are at home in an apartment as well as in a home with a large yard. They are lively dogs and like moderate exercise. Cockapoos posess speed and endurance.

Health: Cockapoos' ears need to be kept clean and dry, like other long-eared dogs, they can be prone to ear infections. Cockapoos can also suffer from progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, aseptic necrosis of the femoral head and epilepsy.

History: The Cockapoo has been popular in the United States since around 1950. The mix has become so common that many Cockapoos breed today are second generation Cockapoos. The Cockapoo is not yet an official breed and is still under development.
