 Lance's Story & Details

I am not sure where I was born but my five siblings and I were found laying in the gutter covered in waste and hiding under what was left of a dog bed. It was a very scary experience and I am still a little scared of cars. I was in bad shape. I had parvo and my brothers and sisters picked on me. We were rescued from the gutter and brought into the local shelter where we were rescued by a wonderful lady and her husband. I was very shy and they worked with me and nursed me back to health.

From there I made the journey to the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago, IL where I was treated for a urinary infection and was neutered. I was then taken to Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha, WI. I arrived there on the morning of October 4th. Later that day my future Mommy and Daddy found me. They came in and found me in the cage outdoors. I spotted them and new I wanted them to take me home. I smiled and looked handsome for them. They came right over to me as soon as they saw me and I kissed their fingers through the fence. I had them hooked :)

They left me and went to talk to the Shelter workers to see about taking me home. Since I had just been brought in and neutered the day I was not able to meet them and play with them that day. My future Mommy came back in on Monday to see me. I was able to see her and play with her a little but because I had a case of Kennel Cough I could not meet my new brother and sister yet. I was put on some medication and remained at the Shelter until Friday when my new Mommy and Daddy came back in to see me. They brought my new little (but older) brother and sister in to meet me. We went outside to they outdoor play area and I got to play with all of them. My older brother barked a little and scared me a little, but after a few minutes I warmed up a little bit. My new Mommy and Daddy decided to take me home. They signed a bunch of papers and I was taken to the car to go to my new home.

When I got home I got to investigate my new backyard and play a little with my new brother and sister. Then we went inside and I got to investigate my new house and toys. The first couple of weeks were rough adjusting to my new home. My new brother and sister were a little afraid of me and possessive of their toys. There were a few little fights. My mom and dad feared they would have to take me back to the shelter but really didn't want to. On the day they were going to take me back, they came home from work and let me out of my crate and played with us. Amazingly enough we must have known this day may be our last together if we didn't get along. We decided to play nicely together so my mom and dad decided to work with us some more and give us some more time.

They have told me that was the best decision they have ever made as I am a wonderful puppy. I learned that I had to potty outside in about a week. I learned that toys are to chew on and walls and furniture are not. I have a wonderful little brother and sister that I love to torment and tease and chase around the house. I am trying to be a good dog for them and very thankful they saved my life...
