My Malchi does it after he goes potty and she started doing it several months ago when they would be out together and she would copy him. Now like I said, she does it mostly when she is anxious and wanting my attention. I have read it is a territorial/dominance thing, anyone have any ideas. She was just on the couch with me and stood up and started kicking her hind legs. Se kicks hard too.

growling when taking a rawhide bone

Edward will be 7 months in a couple of weeks. Lately, when
we try to take a rawhide from him, he growls and clamps down on it
and pushes our hands away.
I've tried offering him a treat instead and, that worked a couple of
times. I can take just about anything away from him except the rawhides.
Any suggestions how to stop this behavior or do we just stop giving him
the bones?
Other than this one bad behavior, he's a good dog..

There are 4 replies, with the last one on 11/20/2009 at 9:36 PM by sophiesmom

Reply: Sophie does the same thing. If she has something and I am loving on her, she will growl and has even snapped at me a few times. I very quickly and loudly tell her no until she gets the idea and try to take it away from her. Afterwards she will slowly climb on my lap and get all lovey. She does this with the cats and Roody also. We are always "debating" about who's the boss. I have never seen such a stubborn pup.

Barking

We were having trouble with our two Chipoos barking at EVERYTHING. They would constantly bark at people walking by, kids playing outside, the neighbors mowing their lawn. You name it they barked at it. We tried filling an empty pop can with some pennies and shaking it and saying 'Quiet' when they barked. It has made drastic improvements. They still bark some, but when you tell them quiet they actually listen now. Hope this helps others.

There are 12 replies, with the last one on 10/19/2009 at 8:38 AM by sands904

Reply: Thanks for the suggestions! I have actually taught the meaning of the word "Quiet" and they will pretty much stop barking on command. No squirt bottle needed. It probably took longer but I do not like the idea of training with aversives if they are avoidable. Plus what if you are out and don't have a squirt bottle?...How do you get them to stop barking?....Thanks again!

Separation Anxiety

We have three dogs, Lacey and Logan are 3 year old Chipoos and Lance our newest addition a 9 month old German Shepherd mix. We got Lacey first when she was 11 weeks old and Logan 5 weeks later, he was 10 weeks old.

They have been together ever since. Logan seems to be very protective of Lacey. If we are out of the house with both of them either on walks, at the store and now at the park and she gets out of his site he gets very anxious, whines and pulls on the leash trying to find her.

We can take them places alone but of course it would be great to take them together as well. I am hoping with some more time apart and work we can eventually achieve this. If anyone has a similar problem or ideas on how to help that would be great...

There are 2 replies, with the last one on 10/19/2009 at 8:27 AM by dhietpas

Reply: I agree with bman, I also have 2 dogs....I hold izzi she is the really excited exuberant one who will startle another dog or person with her excitement. zsa zsa is calmer and has a more calm approach to anything....this lets me know how what the temperature of the situation is going to be....then I monitor izzi for a few minutes....she is always the one who will be the immediate friend, while zsazsa watches them play....and that is the way zsa wants it.

Greeting Behavior

I have a 3 yr old Beabull, 1/2 beagle, 1/2 english bulldog. Gracie is the
most loveable dog, LOVES everyone, which I think is part of the issue. Whenever someone comes into the house, she is so.... excited to see them
that she goes nuts.. Jumps, cries, and then starts racing around the house, catapulting off walls and furniture. Have tried to break her of this and nothing seems to work...any suggestions?

There are 1 replies, with the last one on 10/1/2009 at 9:21 PM by sycadoog

Reply: I would suggest that whenever someone comes over you all completly ignore her until she is sitting quietly and then lots of praise and treats as long as she is sitting quietly. Make sure you use a extra special treat that she only gets when you have guests. You may need a willing partner to practice this with.
Have them knock on the door or whatever they normally do and repeat it a few times. Before you do this though make sure Grace has had plenty of exercise.
Good Luck

Biting!!

I just can't get Rocky to stop biting me. I will use a different tone of voice "NO BITE or NO BITING" when he does. I know he's only a puppy (3 months old) We have plenty of chew toys/bones for him....but he rather chew on me. I will ignore his behavoir & remove myself from him so he knows I do not like him biting me. Then he barks at me. And to add to it...he is also chewing on my dresser leg....so we now limit more areas to where he can be. I feel like I am being a bad mom, but he needs rules.

Other than that Rocky's leg that was injured is 100% better..he's running around like a mad puppy, jumping off the his little pet bed when playing (with his big floppy ears flying out..it's just too cute!)
He know knows simple comands like "Sit" & "Off" He will Fetch and return as well.

When my husband is working with Rocky or playing with him, Rocky seems to listen better to him and I don't know why. Rocky will stop biting when told. And Rocky understands "do your business on the paper"...sometimes I think Rocky plays stupid with me....IDK Can a dog like a different people better than others?

There are 7 replies, with the last one on 9/15/2009 at 8:06 AM by DJDonny

Reply: the squirt gun thing def helps. ive read if he bites u scold him then show him wut he can bite on and hopefully wit a lil time itll get better. midget bites and chews eeeeeeeeverything hes even been known to chew on curbs and cement. There are about 5 different commercials we have to mute because Sugar cries when they play on TV. Is it because of a memory that happened to her before we rescued her? Is it because it is hurting her ears?

Also I woulsd like to know why she sometimes rolls in her own poop in the back yard? I have bathed her twice this week because of this.

Thanks,

Sugar's
Mom

There are 1 replies, with the last one on 7/15/2009 at 6:41 PM by bman

Reply: as for the tv thing it probably sounds like a dog to her but 4 rolling in poop i dont know about that

Jumping!!

I am having trouble with my Bulloxer Chloe jumping up on people. She is now almost 70 lbs. It almost knocks people over when they come to our house and she jumps up. She has given my 7 year old a black eye from jumping up. I don't know how to get her to stop. Other people with boxers tell that is their nature, but it isn't ok with me for her to act like that. She is a large dog and could hurt someone. I have tried putting her in her crate for this but I don't think she understands what "no jump" means. I have tried giving her treats for not jumping but as soon as she finishes the treat she starts jumping all over everyone. Does anyone know how to take care of this behavior? I would be soon grateful for any advice.

There are 4 replies, with the last one on 1/18/2009 at 3:23 PM by JESSICAJOY

Reply: I have tried all of those methods with my Spanador, but nothing really works. Sometimes she jumps on me with a guilty look on her face because she knows it's not acceptable, like she can't help it. But the real trouble comes when ANYONE is over at the house. She's starting to learn with my husband and me, but she figures everyone else is fair game. And i can't wait for her to realize that they aren't going to pet her (the folded arms method) when it's my toddler neice or my mother who's on chemo. All I can ever do is just put her outside in her yard. It's embarrassing! Any other methods?
