I have an issue with my 4 1/2 month old Chipoo, Sophie. Vet says her skin won't absorb Frontline. Says she only sees it once in awhile. She went to the groomer on Friday ( which was very traumatic to her and now I have to decide what to do, but that's another story :), they gave her a flea bath and I told them to go ahead and try the Frontline on her , and Sunday I found a flea. She is itching and driving herself and us crazy. Anyone have any ideas? I've heard that the sprays and powders don't really work and can be harsh to their systems.

There are 1 replies, with the last one on 7/1/2009 at 10:37 AM by Vampre

Reply: Hi
I was also concerned with all the negative information about all the flea and tick products that have been making dogs very ill, so i did some research and found somthing called JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA. It is a redceder specie of cypress that is a natural insect repellent. It is found to be non-toxic and can be purchased as an oil, maybe this can help your baby. Let me know how it goes.
Good Luck

Need advice on grooming

My 4 month old Chipoo refuses to let me brush her. I would love to keep her long silky coat but when I try to brush her she comes unglued. I have tried holding her and using different types/styles of brushes to show it won't hurt but she cries, bites and jumps out of my arms. She's okay with baths, actually jumps in herself at times but when it comes to brushing her out forget it. Anyone have any ideas? If so, I would love to hear them.

There are 3 replies, with the last one on 5/20/2009 at 1:23 PM by sycadoog

Reply: good luck wiht the groomer. Can anyone give me a recommendation for the best de-matting tool? I've got a small and large blade-type tool, but so far the best solution has been to shave our boy. We want to keep his furry mane.

There are 2 replies, with the last one on 4/2/2009 at 8:02 PM by tinani

Reply: I have what they call a dematting comb. It works great. I has a nice handle and blades which cut throught the matts without stressing my dog or hurting her.

Once I've cut throught the matt, it is so much easier to brush or comb the rest of the matt without leaving bald spots on the dog.

Pet- icure

Has anyone tried one of those Peticure things? I have one and I hate it. It is so hard to get her nails done. My Chloe will not holds still. I have to physically sit on her to hold her down. Even then she won't be still so I can't get them done. Any advice?

There are 1 replies, with the last one on 12/7/2008 at 8:12 AM by sands904

Reply: We got one a few months ago. It took some getting used to. We started by letting the dogs sniff it while it was sitting on the floor and giving them a treat when they did sniff it. We then turned it on for them to get used to the sound and let them sniff it again. Once they seemed comfortable around it I touched the handle to their paw so they could get used to the vibrations. Then I tried it one or two nails. Once they started getting restless I stopped. The next day I did a couple more nails. It was a process but eventually they have gotten used to it. I originally bought it because our HATED to have their nails clipped they seem to mind this a little less at least.
