Our baby Homer

Four years ago next week, we picked up a 2.5 lb. squeaking bundle of joy at the airport from a puppy rescue down south. I'd been looking for a dog for a year. Homer's daddy said "no more" because he did not want to have to go through another dog passing away. But, I kept looking and found this little guy online and filled out the application. I told hubby when he got home from golfing. He was not thrilled but went along with it. He is retired and I work part time. Now, they are best buddies and go everywhere together. He is our empty nest child. He is with us constantly as we travel all over the country. He loves to ride in his car seat in the middle seat of our van. He loves to eat and snuggle (he's snuggled up to me right now on the couch) and loves socks. I had a dog like this as I was growing up and loved her. I consciously looked for some kind of beagle/terrier mix when looking to adopt and this little face just jumped out at me. I am so glad that we took the chance on this little guy. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Franklin

Franklin is a 2 year old Jack a bee. He was found wondering the streets of Virgina at 10 weeks old. He was transferred to Rochester NY through a shelter exchange. I adopted him when he was about 12 weeks old. Franklin is super energetic. He loves chewing on bones and digging holes if I give him the chance. This time of the year his favorite activity is to seek out chipmunks.Franklin loves everybody he meets so he is never going to be a watch dog though he lets me know when somone is coming to the door. He has a large vocabulary: (down, stay, ice(he loves ice cubes) shake( he can alternate paws when I ask him to), bit(stands up on his 2 rear legs, water, ball, bone, over, time to eat, is someone here?, stay..many more to list He is well behaved for the most part as long as he can burn off his daily energy. He could get into mischief if he doesn't get some form of execise. He loves strawberries. They are the only "table food" I feed him. He is trim(20 lbs), he has muscular back legs and exhibits traits from both breeds. His nose is to the ground 24-7. He likes to explore and wants to catch squirrels and chipmunks though I hate to tell him they are faster than him.He puts his snout up my gutters to see if he can smell these rodents.

Porthos

We saved my furry little friend from a guy that had 5 pitts in 2 cages and none of the dogs had gotten a bath or a proper meal in I dont know how long as I walk through the most heartbreaking place I think I have ever been I saw a little tan ball of fur. I went over to the cage that had 3 other dogs in it and he looked right at me and those big brown eyes where asking for help. We could not leave him in that place. So we took him from there and called the aspca to save the other dogs. We have had porthos for about 3 months now and he is the most amazing little pup. He is great with our 2 year old and loves nothing more then to jump on your lap and lick you to death. He picked his person and has been at my side non stop. You can see both the Jack and the Beagle in him. He has the heart of a Terrier and the nose of a Beagle, this makes him a tough little dog. I dont know what I would do with out porthos.

Our Buddy Lou

My husband and I adopted Buddy Lou (formerly known as Russel) from a shelter in CT three years ago. The shelter said he was 2 years old, but it turned out he was actually closer to 4. The first year was really difficult- he'd been abused for nearly a year so he had trust issues. My husband and I have scars from that first year, but we were determined to keep him.

Thanks to some help from our vet and some doggie prozac, two years later Buddy Lou is the best dog you could ask for. He's unbelievably intelligent, fun, playful and protective. He hates the cold and is a total snuggle-bug in the winter. He'll do anything for a snack or a ride in the car. I wouldn't trade him for anything!

Irey

I got my dog Irey from a shelter on base at Fort Bragg,NC.
I could not have asked for a better dog. When it comes to training him, he is awsome. Shedding is always a problem because he dose have the undercoat. My Jack-a-Bee is great with kids and small animals.

For a year I did not know what he was, untill my friend herd him baying. She said he sounded just like a beagle.
So I got on the internet and found tones of pix of other Jack-a-Bee dogs.

When I got on this web site and looked at the breed info, and there it was, a nail on the head. Every thing listed was spot on to my Irey.

His breed is awsome. Not hyper all the time. He can jump very high when he wants. Absolutly the most loving animal Iv ever seen. The only problem I have is shedding and barking when somone knocks on the door. Other than that, I highly recomend a Jack-a-bee to somone who is in an appartment and has kids.

3 Jackabees

I fell in love with the breed, their personalities are so evident. We have 3 Otis, Ollie and Squiggles. The squirrels and rabbits hate them but we find so much joy in there everyday antics. We have plenty of acreage for them to run and they spend all there waking hours running and playing. I think that they have a touch of ADHD because it is hard to train them they are so distracted but they are all three intellegent animals. They keep our family busy and entertained. We have also found that they are excellent climbers. If there is a way they will find it. I have many pictures of these pooches standing on our well house. They seem to be watching over there yard. I would recommend this dog breed to anyone who wants a hyper intellegent dog, who will give loads of love, and hours of entertainment.
