I started this site as a way to express my love for my two 'Designer Dogs' and help other Designer Dog owners have a safe place to express their feelings and concerns about their dogs. I received an email today from people who are opposed to breeding/having designer dogs and it really made me mad.
From everything I have read the majority of the dogs being bred and raised today are kept as pets. Yes, there are some that are still working dogs, show dogs, etc, but the majority are kept in home by families as pets. When I bought my dogs, I bought them as just that pets. I think of them as my children and love them unconditionally. When Lacey needed knee surgery, I didn't blame the breeder for breeding an inferior, low quality dog. I took here to the dog medical clinic and paid for her to have surgery. It cost over $2000, but I didn't think twice or complain a bit. I just paid it because if she was one of my human children, I would have done the same thing.
So, I ask if someone wants a dog as a pet and they want a designer dog then why is that anyone elses business. Why should that person be bad mouthed and put down because of it. It is not their fault that there are dogs in the shelter, unless they personally took one there themselves. Yes, I do hope that more people will consider adopting from shelters when they want a dog. My husband and I looked at some shelters in our area, but didn't find a dog that fit our wants. When it is time for me to get another dog I will look in the local shelters again and hopefully find what I am looking for and help a dog out.
Why do people have to bash Designer Dog Breeders for producing dogs that people want? Didn't all dogs come from the same place anyway? I have nothing against purebreds, breeders or their owners, I just know they were derrived from a long line of other dogs by mixing them just like what is going on today.
Todays designer dog breeders are breeding pets that people want. Lots of them do genetic testing and make sure they are producing healthy puppies. Yet they are still criticized. I just don't understand it. Yes, I suppose there are some that are not doing genetic testing. Were our parents genetically tested before they were allowed to have us, maybe but I don't think so. Why are humans free to make all the unhealthy babies in the world, but our dogs have to be tested before they can. I thought reproducing was a natural thing. Sometimes I think we have taken technology and advances too far. Some designer dog breeder may be charging more just to make money, but you don't have to look very far to see the sam happening in the 'Purebred World'. We found a breeder who was selling a purebred Yorkie for $2200 which seems to be okay, but if the same breeders was charging that for a Yorkipoo it would be said they are doing it just for the money, etc. I just disagree with the double standard.
The point of the site was not to promote or discourage the breeding of Designer Dogs. It was to give the people who have them a community to share feelings, stories, pictures, etc without feeling like there dog is less worthy because it is not purebred. Personally, I love my dogs and I would NOT trade them for all the money in the world no matter what they are.

I agree totally with everything you have said. I been breeding my Chipoos for the last 4 years & have nothing, but great comment about all of them I have sold. And yes all mine have been sold to those wanting a family pet. I have sold them to several people in my small town & they said they would recommend them to anyone.

I am so grateful to have found this sight. I have a pair of pure bred miniature schnauzers and I also have Dalia who is the best dog/friend I have ever had. I tried to join a schnauzer e-group and they were very cruel to me because I cross breed my dogs. They said horrible things and called me names, like I might change my mind and not breed my dogs if they were mean and intimidating enough. Some of the people in the group acctually said I wasn't welcome in the group because I breed my mixed breed dog. I was shocked and hurt that they would be so mean. I was just looking for someone to talk to, and share my love for my dogs with. I am sure that here, I won't get any grief for breeding or owning pure bred dogs and I want to thank you all. I have to say I have never seen so many cute, beautiful, well cared for dogs anywhere!

P.S. In Dalia's photos I posted some pictures of her puppies. If anyone has any idea what color they are going to be, I would love any and all input. The dark one has brown ticking on the hairs on his back. The sire is a pure bred black and silver shnauzer.(Harley)

you might want to consider changing that last line to: I would NOT trade them for anything in the world!!
Other than that I agree. I have a Yorkie Poo and love him to pieces! I think having a mixed-breed puppy results in a much better and fun filled relationship. It's definitely a rewarding experience.

I am so glad you did this, I am a new registry on the site and before here I tried to get information on my dogs that bred, a purebred Great Dane and a purebred Weimaraner they have produced a litter of the most beautiful black pups save one that has a little white on her chest. I was so bashed and put down called names insulted just for asking questions I was told I should not even own pets that I was unresponsible etc. etc. etc. This litter was thought of and planned for 2 years, both sire and dam were healthy receive vet care and update shots they are fed the proper nutrition and handled and trained. They are Loved and nurtured. My female had the puppies on my lap on the floor, I would like to see how many hoitie toitie breeders would do that personally! Mad as hell at those snobs too. My thoughts are all the inbreeding that has gone on in those purebreds (yes I own 2) have lead to the health problems they face today. I also replied back to one person who was so mean to ask him where he thought his breed came from (2 or more other breeds) I told him, he was quiet after that.

I am so glad to see your comment. I have had so many negative comments from people who have never even seen my dog. I have been called irresponsible for just owning my dog. I love my chi-chon. He has everything I love about a Chihauhau but the sturdiness of the Bichon. Nothing could be better for me or the needs of my family.
I have been told that he had to of come from a bad breeder. Well the truth is it was our vet that bred his mom to the Bichon. I think a vet would know what is a safe combination! Bear's mom was more closely monitored during her pregnancy than most women are! He took great care in breeding her to a very small Bichon.
And I have rescued a boxer that is very near and dear to me so I really resent people who make these comments without knowing the whole story. Our Boxer tells me when I am going to have seizures and allows me to live a normal life. So I will always be greatful to him but at the same time I wanted a small companion that I could carry with me. There is no way I could cary a 75lb boxer! Although I am sure he thinks he is a lap dog! LOL!My parents have rescued 9 dogs over the years and I have always volunteered my home, time and money to help with them so it gets on my nerves when people try to give me a guilt trip when they really know nothing about me, my animals or my sitiuation.
I also purchased my Chi-Chon for the same price of an adoption fee. So when I get these comments that I paid lots of money for a dog when I could of rescued one it really gets under my skin.
I think if a dog suits your needs and speaks to your heart then go for it no matter if it is a hybrid, purebred, rescued dog or what. I feel like my Chi-chon chose me just as much as I chose him. We have a really strong bond. Isn't that what is important?
As far as rescue animals go, I am all for helping them. But there are more ways to help them than just adopting one. You can donate supplies like towels or even your time! I just wish people would get off there soapbox and realize that there is more than one way to help out and nothing wrong with buying a dog from a breeder, vet or shelter!
If a dog truly speaks to your heart than that is the one you should have no matter where it comes from!
