Lacey's Tooth

Yesterday we took Lacey and Logan for a walk. My husband was wearing his big steel toe work boots (not sure why :). While Lacey was walking she walked a little too close and he bumped her in the mouth with his foot. It didn't seem that hard at the time. She didn't make any noise or act like she was in pain. Later that night I heard her chewing on something and went to see what it was. It appeared to be one of her teeth. I took it from her and looked around in her mouth. Yep, she was missing one of her middle teeth on the left side of her mouth, the opposite side she would have been bumped on during the walk. We had also given her a new kind of dental treat earlier in the day. I don't know if either one of these is the reason her tooth fell out or if they are completely unrelated. I have never experienced anything like this. I don't know if we should take her into the vet to haver her teeth examined. There isn't really anything they can do about the tooth she already lost, but I am worried. Her teeth just shouldn't be falling out like that...

hi there:
I think I would take her in because maybe their is somethng going on with her teeth as you say it should not have fallen out that easy. If you know now there is a problem it maybe could be fixed just by for example a change of diet or medication and by not knowing it might be too late when you do find out there was something wrong.

To Sands904,
A real "telling" comment is your husband's steel toed shoes. Why would anyone kick, nudge, or bump a steel toe into a dog's mouth?
I'd be sure to let the vet know about that before going off on some dietary tangent.
If the dogs are young, losing baby teeth is common. But if the dog is older, the tooth shouldn't come out for no reason.

Wolf49 - Thanks for the comment. He by no means kicked her. I was afraid someone was going to take it that way. We are still teaching them to walk properly on their leashes. They both still act like puppies and are very excited when they get to go for a walk and like to dart back and forth. She happened to move right while he was taking a step. There was nothing intentional about it. She is a small dog only about 11" tall so her mouth is not very high of the ground and when he lifted his foot that was when it happened. I think we will take her in and have it checked out anyway. Thanks for the comment.
