Caring for a Jack Chi

Feeding: Jack Chis can be picky eaters, but generally are happy to eat what you put out. Care should be taken not to overfeed them as some will eat everything they can and not stop.

Living with a Jack Chi

Personality: The Jack Chi is a loving, friendly, and playful dog.

Temperament: The Jack Chi is an even tempered dog that is eager to please.

Family Dog: The Jack Chi makes a great family dog. They typically love to play with other dogs and cats. Care should be taken when they are around small children due to size and hyper activity of the dog.

Shedding: The Jack Chi does shed a lot especially in the summer.

Grooming: The grooming requirements of the Jack Chi depend on their coat type. Longer hair will need more brushing to prevent knots while a short coat requires very little brushing.

Training: The Jack Chi is very easy to train using positive reinforcement methods.

Behavior: The Jack Chi is a sweet dog who is friendly to strangers, childern and other dogs. They are typically calm but love to play and can be hyper at times.

Barking: Some Jack Chis are very quiet and some love to bark at everything they see or hear. They do like to bark during play.

Weather: The Jack Chi does not like the cold and prefers to stay out of the water.

Exercise: The Jack Chi is small enough to get enough exercise indoors, but they enjoy playing ball and going on walks. They do need plenty of exercise every day.

Appearance: The Jack Chi typically has a longer nose and body like that of the Jack Russell including some of its color markings, but has the hair and leg length of a Chihuahua.

Size: The Jack Chi is bigger then a Chihuahua and smaller than the Jack Russell.

Companionship: The Jack Chi bonds to one person like a Chihuahua, but loves everyone they meet. They make very loyal companions.

Head: The Jack Chi has a triangular shaped head.

Nose: The Jack Chis nose can be pink or black, depending on coloration.

Eyes: The Jack Chi has large eyes like a Chihuahua.

Ears: The ears of the Jack Chi can be pointed and erect like the Chihuahua's or floppy and folded like a Jack Russell's.

Neck: The Jack Chi has a short neck.

Body: The Jack Chi has a long and muscular body.

Forequarters: The forequarters of the Jack Chi are close like a Jacks.

Hindquarters: The hindquarters of the Jack Chi are well set and spring loaded.

Feet: The Jack Chi can have pink or multi-colored pads.

Tail: The tail of the Jack Chi resembles that of the Chihuahua. They are somewhat long and a little fluffy. May be born with a knot in the tail.

Color: The Jack Chi may be white or white, black and brown with a black patches around the eyes.

Coat: The Jack Chi can have a short, shiny, wire hair coat or a longer coat like the Chihuahua.

Health: The Jack Chi is typically a very hearty dog.

Dental Health: The Jack Chi has good dental health but needs regular gentle brushing. They may also have a issue with loosing baby teeth and some may need to be pulled.
