The Airedoodle and Addison's Disease

My beloved Airedoodle Kodi was purchased from a very small breeder in Didsbury, Alberta.

Just nearing 3 years, Kodi was diagnosed with Addison's disease. Fortunately, with early diagnosis and medicine, Kodi is and will continue to live a healthy and happy life if he gets regular medicine and blood tests.

Upon researching Addison's disease, I found that the Airedale, Poodle and Portuguese Water Spaniel are breeds that are susceptible to this disease.

I would like to pass along this information so any one with a wonderful Airedoodle watches for the early signs. In Kodi's case he was getting sick to his stomach and lethargic sporadically. He would usually get better in 24hours until the last episode that he did not get better and I took him to the vet. Three days in ICU and a blood test confirmed his condition and he was put on meds.

He has fully recovered, but we still are visiting the vet regularly to monitor his blood levels and adjust his medication.

If anyone notices this in their Airedoodles, please do not hesitate to take them to the vet and have blood work done. It has saved my baby's life! Kodi and I are doing very well and enjoying the summer at his favorite park!

Sincerely,

Susan and Kodi!
