Gizmo's mother had milk fever and, being unable to feed them without suffering potentially fatal symptoms, had to five up her puppies at one week of age. When we adopted Gizmo, a small orphan puppy, she could fit in the palm of a hand and weighed only a few ounces. We bottle fed her every two hours, 24 hours a day, for 2 months and were the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes for the very first time.
