The size of a Goldendoodle can vary largely depending on the size of the Poodle Parent. If the parent was a Standard Poodle the Goldendoodle can be between 60 and 80 pounds. If the Golden Retriever was bred with a Miniature Poodle then the Goldendoodle will be smaller. Miniature Goldendoodles are usually around a foot tall when fully grown.

History: |
The history of the Goldendoodle is somewhat intertwined with that of the Labradoodle. The Labradoodle was originally developed by Wally Conran in Australia as an assistance dog for people with allergies. Soon after, Dr Kate Schoeffel who was both a geneticist and veterinarian began breeding Labradoodles to be kept as pets using a Miniature Poodle instead of the Standard Poodle previously used. It was because of the success of the Labradoodle, and the highly sought after qualities of both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle that Goldendoodle breeding was started.
The first know purposeful breeding of the Golden Retriever and the Poodle was by Any Lane in Maryland. Any decided to call her puppies Goldendoodles because of their beautiful, fluffy, golden coats. At least two of Amy's Goldendoodles have graduated from the Guide Dogs of America program in Los Angeles and become outstanding guide dogs. Another of Amy's Goldendoodles was given to St. Francis of Assisi Service Dogs Foundation in Roanoke Virginia where he helps with prison inmates.
After success with her larger sized Goldendoodles, Amy decided to breed a Miniature poodle with the Golden Retriever to produce Miniature Goldendoodles. This was done with the help of a veterinarian and artificial insemination. Goldendoodles have since become very popular and sought after pets as well as enjoying some success in Television commercials and training videos. Goldendoodles are also continued to be used a therapy dogs.
